Having recovered from her curse and with spending the last several months preparing herself, Lisandra "Lilac" Dragomir is ready. Her mentor meets her to inspect her progress, the two departing to talk about this, her past, and the future. Klaudia explains that she has located a hunt she believes would be a good test of Lilac's ability, although she expresses concern that Lilac may run in to emotional problems in dealing with hunting a person who may be much as she was. Despite concerns, even because of them, Lilac agree to go and feels that she is ready.

The next day they set out, armed, stopping by the castle of Spearhead in order to make final preparations. Lilac has a curious weapon made: metal claw-caps the fat over gloves she purchases. While they wait for these with the plan to set out in the morning, Lilac even has a chance to sing, much to the delight of the tavern goers. Once they collect their things the two depart, splitting up as they reach the edge of the forest. From here on, Lilac is on her own – the hunt has begun.
