Brishen's sleep is disturbed by the arrival of Envoy by secretive means. Envoy inquires about how the Temple reacted to the disappearance of the Savanites, and Brishen relates her perspective on events … and just how badly they might turn out. Envoy at last shows Brishen the secret passage that leads to her chamber … and then sneaks out as voices can be heard in the studio. (Degarde is having furniture and silverware and other things appraised.)

A Kiriga messenger arrives, inquiring into Brishen's health, and giving her a wooden shekel. Using hand-sign, he conveys that he has been sent by a Shiga whose trademark is the pine token, and that he is prepared to help the Savanites escape Rephidim – and Brishen as well, if need be. Arrangements are made to meet at a warehouse in Darkside, next to the Grim Fandango.
