After having recovered enough to depart, Lilac and Dragonfly move to escape the grasp of the Temple of Being. It takes some puzzling, but eventually the pair manage to find a way out, fleeing to the surface some distance from where they had entered the Temple. Free of both the fleshy caverns and Hakuu's forces, the two fly to try and locate a supply cache in order to supply themselves for the long journey to locate Lilac's friends. Unable to find a cache, Lilac is forced to hunt, while Dragonfly prepares a campfire against the freezing desert night. The two are awoken by none other than Long-Shadow, who escorts them to his village. There, Dragonfly and Lilac speak with the village elder, have a heart to heart talk, and eventually, get some rest. Tomorrow, they decide, they'll proceed towards Viper's Hold, which they have learned is under siege and may be Kin's current location.
