Anisa, still in Barada's realm, puzzles over what clothes to put on to prepare for the final confrontation, and at last opts to just go with her regular attire, rather than to continue to play Barada's pointless games. She moves on, climbing the temple steps, where Barada waits, with two infants One is Petal, Anisa's niece … while the other is Anisa's unborn nephew. Barada explains that they are to be her judges, and insists that Anisa perform a sacrifice of Shift, the Naga dream mage accompanying her. If Anisa does not, then Barada threatens to reveal secrets about Anisa's family such as the secret that Quinn, her older brother, is having an affair. Barada claims that if this secret is revealed, it will crush her family, perhaps even cause Bessy (Quinn's wife) to miscarry.
Anisa, rather than sacrificing the snake, plunges the dagger into her own chest, and the dream ends.
When Anisa awakens, she is back in the Tavern run by her family, and she finds out that she has been bedridden for weeks. However, she's recovered now … and she has the crystal necklace put away, so she won't have any more of these troubling dreams.
