Bambridge prowls through Achimed's and comes across a travel bag of the necessities for a quick getaway; he comes back downstairs to find Lilith, colored as a Savanite, rummaging through the shop. They narrowly avert the disaster of setting off an alarm only, then hide when Achimed, woken later, comes searching through the shop; as Achimed calls for Remy (Vorgulremik, gone at that time to Faraon's feast), and then checks the back door, it becomes gradually clearer that they're not going to be able to pull it off perfectly. Bambridge tells Lilith to escape, then steals the dress through an interesting escape manuever. Vorgulremik returns at that time as Achimed gets in trouble, and Achimed and Vorgulremik engage in an argument while Bambridge successfully escapes. Vorgulremik sets fire to the shop and leaves in a fit of pique, while Bambridge and Lilith discover secret papers, some of which she gives him in the belief they will be useful…
