Envoy's surgery to stick her ribs back in is straightforward, although Silent-Ones custom dictates a family member be present, which means Icarus is there as well. At one point he's told to hold a rib in place while the doctor prepares the glue and bio-cast, and when he does so Envoy is able to see through his eyes and listen in on his crystal implants.
During her brief recovery, Envoy lets Icarus know the results of his lineage test; that he's related to Born-In-War's family. Icarus isn't sure how to take this, but doesn't seem too scared.
At dinner he is presented with an ornate Silent-Ones mask that shows his connection to Envoy as well, and there is some discussion about his education and need for a male role model, as well as Born-In-War noting he will inspect Envoy's base to make sure it's suitable for Icarus.
After dinner, Envoy takes Icarus to the medical room with the scanner, and has a look at his implants which are much more integrated and seamless than Twelve's were. Icarus 'powers up' while in the scanner so that they have a baseline of what happens to him when he uses his power, which bothers Envoy.
He's very upset about Fourteen and Dr. Von Bronson, but Envoy gets him to promise to not do things if she asks him, since he wants to protect her all of the time.
