In Rory's flashback dream, Sylvan pleads with Corwin to come to his senses … and then an inexplicable thing happens. Somehow, Sylvan has a flash of realization, and acts on Rory's memory of his flashback as Corwin, or so it seems from Rory's perspective. As she comes to a realization that Corwin has misunderstood her relationship with the shadow dragon Koshiro, she explains that she was only a child when she came to Sinai … a claim bolstered by the fact that she happens to be clutching a unicorn doll that she brought with her from Aeonia because she was a child at the time. Corwin realizes that he has misjudged Sylvan, and at last relents … much to the relief of Sylvan, who is glad that she won't be losing her friend.
Rory regains consciousness again, and goes to explore the last room Corwin's room and there he finds Silhouette, sitting right in front of a painting of Sylvan … who bears remarkable similarity to the shadow-unicorn. Rory spills out the story of his flashbacks to Silhouette, and he learns that she has been having similar flashbacks both as Corwin and as Sylvan. Rory puzzles over what all this means … whether he's Corwin reincarnated, or Corwin and Sylvan might be their parents … or if there might be some other explanation. Rory is glad, though, to see Silhouette again, and tries to encourage her that, no matter how unpleasant the flashback-dreams may get, they are still best friends.
