Leeta is on the deck of the Morning Star, watching Rhys have a very successful conversation with some Eeee officers while Tahir has a bad one with a Jupani airshipman. Naoko arrives, asking her to do an uncomfortable favour – serve Rhys. Afterwards Leeta tells Tahir to try and make a good impression on the other officers, while she goes below to talk with her old friend.
Naoko watches as Leeta describes her worries, that Tahir is still troubled by Delwin's death, and her general unease about the secrets she knows. Naoko consoles her, saying that the Star has given her the gifts she will need, and she just has to remember to move quietly, as well as run quickly. Naoko also describes how she has written a letter for Rhys, and agrees to let Leeta clean the other candidate's room.
