On the second day on Arcadia, while Matchstick is breaking down camp, a bunch of strange white creatures appear, and start sucking up leaves from the forest floor and drinking water from the stream. One of the creatures drops a necklace made of twisted bits of wire that form pictures. Lochinvar snatches up the shiny jewelry, and gets the attention of some of these aliens. Through a bit of pantomime and effort, he identifies one of them as "Hoo-KAH", and introduces himself and his comrades.

Once the creatures leave, Lochinvar agrees to scout ahead on a path to a mountain the Temple may be interested in setting up an outpost on in the future. He goes by air, and spots a black, squirmy, blobbish monster lying along the path, with evidence of "Hoo-KAH" victims lying strewn about. One such "Hoo-KAH" is strolling toward this monster, but Lochinvar chooses to just watch as the creature tries to escape, but is snared, drawn in and devoured by this hideous beast. Lochinvar flies back to warn his comrades about the danger ahead on the path.
