After being brought in along with Bambridge, Chiri, and Little Reed, Envoy is put into a bare room and told to wait. After much delay, Inquisitor Zeffel (whom Envoy had supposedly 'imagined' before) confronts the Exile with her past charge of murdering Isstan, and demands to know who got her released from custody. Still under the effects of the painkiller Chiri gave her, Envoy is confused and uncooperative, prompting Zeffel to make ominous threats and leave her in isolation until the drug wears off completely.
