Dreaming, Umeko and Lilac find themselves in an unknown castle, in what seems to be Sylvania. Further, the young bardess recognizes the style of dream as very similar to those she has had about the mysterious Korv ghost. Alarmed to find her friend present in her dreams, the two quickly discuss their situation and then work on trying to figure out what they can learn from it. After exploring the castle somewhat, they come upon a great meeting of Korv knights and their Seneschal, who reveals that the lady of the castle is typically resting when not seeing to 'guests' personally. Umeko makes a guess the lady is a vampire, deeply offending the Korvs present. After the situation calms somewhat, the Seneschal, addressing Lilac as 'Dame Riesling,' insists Lilac take Sir Greyswand in to the town to gather tonight's 'guest,' and so the three depart. After arriving at the mayoral building, the three discover the 'guest' – a criminal – has escaped, prompting Umeko to offer herself to be the 'guest,' which causes surprise in all around her. Lilac argues she won't allow it, but Umeko manages to get her friend to relent, and so the three make their journey back to the castle, form there to present themselves to the Raveness when the time comes. Later, the three and the Seneschal confront the Raveness – a Lady Margaret Pieksvaldt – who appears to be half-shadow, and who seems to control a living void that rests in the center of the room. Umeko steps forward, and asks as her final request the lady explain, which she does. As the explanation continues, Umeko begins to falter, then fade, the sight of her friend dying breaking Lilac's restraint so that she charges the lady, becoming her beast. In the end, the two awaken to find themselves alive, if anxious. Xander enters, worried, as the two women try and sort out what happened and calm themselves. While just a dream, the information gleaned from it would prove vital un the future.
