Exhausted from the fight with Valicross' spirit, Qing is brought to the dining room of the Gnarly Tree, where Isolde gives him an energizing drink. The Mage explains his findings to Olivia, and makes it clear that Stonebarrow earned its bounty on the necromancer. He signs the official papers and hands over two gold shekels. He also lets the Skeek know that he will be working to identify the remains of those held in the necromancer's staff, and will need her help to document the victims and see that their mortal remains are returned to their families.
There is also the matter of the necromancer's lair in the swamp, which Morgan identifies as the old (pre-flood) trading post.
Feeling a bit better from the broth, Qing and Morgan go to the gypsy camp to see Natasha. Qing remembers her now, having been prompted by the necromancer's own memories, and asks why she stayed secluded from the College after her recovery.
Natasha explains about her young rise to notoriety, and the problems that came with it, including the overtures of a powerful man. After being spurned, he took his revenge by telling Natasha to take on the Sylvania contract or see her family killed.
With Inaya in town, Morgan and Qing both agree that the time for closure is ripe, and that Natasha should let her sister know the truth. Natasha sees an opportunity, finally, since with Qing at her side she can actually keep her remaining family protected.
Qing also offers to aid in the ritual with Bravil later that night.
