Envoy, not officially invited to the City, nonetheless acquires a place to sleep, and awakens to find the city full of song. She meets an old cheetah musician, "Old Flute," and has a very limited conversation with the blind Savanite. She also meets Siltskin, a mysterious masked lizard who seems to know Envoy already, but is not keen on revealing his own identity. Meanwhile, there are processions through the streets, including a performance by the Magenta and Cobalt Lancers, and an appearance by Creen-Song and her princess daughters.
