Jynx dreams of being in a circle of twelve mirrors, most of which reflect identities that Jynx has adopted at one point or another, by choice or by accident. One of the mirrors, however, shows a totally black surface … another shows a Khatta beastman … and the last shows an animated silhouette. When Jynx asks the images who they are, they answer … and the silhouette answers with "Morpheus".

Jynx converses with this entity, and discovers that it is indeed the same one that he has previously known as the "Artifact of Calderas" … except that, being here on Morpheus, this "artifact" has taken on a personality of its own – a personality that has chosen to name itself after the world of its "rebirth". Morpheus thanks Jynx for his part in this, and they discuss just what Morpheus will plan to do after this – Jynx reacting with more than a little fear to this whole prospect of the Artifact having a free will. Jynx manages to solicit Morpheus' help to locate Last-Daughter, the Savanite cub presumably located in "stasis" somewhere on the ship that Brishen and Jynx are sheltering on.
