Envoy is summoned to Rephidim Temple, where Arch-Inquisitor Melchizedek informs her that plans have changed for the expedition to Ashtoreth, due to the unexpected departure of the Water Mage, Scarlet. Envoy is given a choice of other places to explore, and she chooses Fortunatis.

Envoy rides a sand trireme across the Sea of Sand toward the Forbidden Zone of the Himaat, finding that Wynona Windcaller is also on this expedition, as well as a Jupani Guard named Korut. They go to the Gateway Tower, where Envoy indulges her curiosity, dubbing the two "unnamed" worlds "Ylem" and "Quicksilver". They then go through the portal to Fortunatis, going to the Planet of Chaos.
