Midsummer morn, the Princess of Stygia arrives at Little Rephidim West, a paquebot on the Stygian Sea. He gets up early, encountering Ariel Azale preparing a spell, and goes along with her on a quest to find ghosts. Sure enough, they find them – though Alptraum encounters the ghost first (a spirit of a child killed during the cepheid attack). Ariel insists that Alptraum step back so she can dispel the ghost, but he refuses, and the ghost disappears before Ariel can hit it with her spell. She is not pleased, and neither is Alptraum – He leaves.

After getting some more sleep, Alptraum goes out and about, and does some shopping, buying some more suitable clothes for passing as a "native" in Babel.
