Jynx (aka 'Meow') rides a ship with a crew comprised entirely of Savanites, surrounded by a magical blackness. It becomes apparent to him that some of these Savanites can actually utilize … magic! Eventually, his journey takes him to the Xenean Jungle, whereupon a wagon takes him to the City of Hands. Unfortunately, his carelessness ends up in a dangerous fall, whereupon he interrupts a witch-doctor's ritual, and is fished out of the river by a couple of Savanite girls. For a moment, it seems as if Jynx's disguise is wavering, to the amazement of those present, but his "bleached spottycat" disguise returns. Nonetheless, Jezebel recognizes him … and recommends that he get to learn the language while he's here.
