Kia, Envoy and Whonkahonk explore more of the underground city of Stalto, mindful of signs that they may not be totally alone. They find a partially flooded "maintenance access" building housing stairs leading down into some water. With some effort, they manage to figure out that there's a door at the bottom that, if opened, might possibly drain out the water. Envoy goes underwater, with Kia and Whonkahonk holding onto the other end of a rope tied about her waist. She opens the door, and her friends keep her from being swept out as the water drains.

Exhausted by all this, they head back to the museum to take shifts getting short naps to recuperate their strength, but their attempts to sleep are troubled by strange nightmares. Once they're all awake again, they head back to the maintenance access area, determined to find their way to the object of Envoy's quest and not spend any more time in Stalto than absolutely necessary.
