When Morgan and Qing arrive, Dr. Pike is desperately trying to capture a loose eggplant. Qing manages to catch it in a net for the doctor, and he and Morgan give some of the equipment they recovered from Valicross' lair in exchange for using her dungeon.
Igor takes them to the room where Orifice was supposedly killed, and has done his best to scrub out the blood stains at least. Here, Qing sets up a ward circle and prepares a seance to extract the spirit from its crystal prison, and Morgan turns into a Creen himself to make it feel more at home.
The spirit is released and manifested, claiming to be Pilli the Otter Baiter, and recognizes Morgan as 'Lord Xochi'. Upon questioning, the spirit reveals that Lord Xochi was the king of the bog fairies, who are the 'luck gods' of the Akwavi. Lord Xochi had big plans, and also a crush on Isolde. The idea was for him to be born into her child, and so gain a soul in order to overcome some sort of limitation.
The notion that he is his own father makes Morgan's brain snap for a bit, but he eventually gets a grip. When the spirit suggests he kill himself to release Lord Xochi so that he could 'try again', Morgan gets upset with Pilli. When Pilli learns who Morgan really is, he claims that he didn't say anything and that the witch should ignore him.
It turns out, according to Pilli, that Xochi's interference with Isolde threw a wrench into the Big Spirit's plans, causing Morgan to be born before Amelia and becoming the witch instead of her something that Pilli begs Morgan to never tell her, for fear that she'll go crazy and drive out all of the otters.
