Bambridge and Chiri go to Dali's pasteries in the bazaar, along with their three slaves, Yellow Feather, Little Reed, and X. Both the Shiga and the Rat exchange some of their life experience, while X keeps an eye on Little Reed's antics. Bambridge reveals he is the Wooden Shekel, and that he may need Chiri's help in the future. Chiri advises him that his involvement in Darkside will ultimately bring him to a bad end. She also inspects the 'antidote' that Yellow Feather was required to drink daily, and explains it was all a ruse to keep the slave loyal.
