Reaching Roadhouse 23 (also known as The Last Roadhouse) Tulani and Arkold spot the mysterious Lady Veil whom they encountered on their trip to the capitol, and who gets Alptraum's interest.

The innkeeper tells them that it isn't safe to be out at night due to something called the Night Hunter, which nobody has actually seen but is able to snatch people away without a trace. Alptraum tries to negotiate a free night at the inn in exchange for searching out the culprit, and the innkeeper reluctantly agrees if he and Tulani can bring back actual proof of the thing's identity.

There are no coaches going further east, but they are told that Lady Veil is going that way but has had been held up at the roadhouse for want of a coach driver and protection from bandits. Alptraum goes over to introduce himself while Tulani and Arkold watch and have something to eat.

After the initial introductions, Lady Veil removes her veil and gloves to try and win the group's trust, revealing herself to be a black-skinned, white-haired human with pointy ears. Alptraum asks to test out his bladeless dagger on her, but she has no reaction to it.

It doesn't take long for Lady Veil (whose real name is Ravenia) to charm the men and hire them to accompany her to her home since both Alptraum and Tulani can drive the coach. A little bit of flirting leads to playful bickering between Arkold and Alptraum.
