Francisco, dreaming, finds himself at a house perched on a cliff beside a waterfall, seemingly near the "end of the world". He goes inside, and is served tea in a ceremony by Amaranth – who appears as a golden vixen with seven tails. Amaranth questions Francisco about his name and how he is faring on Sinai, and offers to help him get revenge on Eustace. Francisco is intrigued by the notion, and agrees to work with Amaranth toward this end.
