Chiaroscuro, accompanied by two companions from the Half Valley Watch, heads deeper into the Basin, and finds a small village that has been beset by a monster known as the "Observor" – or so claims one of the inhabitants. Chiaroscuro and company set up a camp inside one of the buildings, only to be disturbed by a Kavi from a nearby village. The Kavi recognizes Chiaroscuro as a great "shaman".
