The Savanite Inquisitor continues to question Bambridge in person, about the Nagai Empire, and making pots. When the Shiga reveals that he was lying, a Naga garter inside the Savanite's headdress shows that he was also being deceptive. In the discussion that follows, Vassoy explains the difficulties in being an Inquisitor of small stature, and hence his reasons for using his slave Dromo's presence as an intimidation technique. Vassoy also laments his inability to visit the Nagai Empire, and Bambridge offers to travel there on the garter's behalf at a later date. Vassoy agrees to at least discuss this over a few meals, and gives Bambridge a reward and Good Citizenship certificate for his efforts with Envoy and the Flying Device.
The Shiga then waits outside the Temple for Chiri's questionning to be done. When the Skreek arrives, she almost rips the chameleon's skin off with her cursing. She fully blames him for her loss of business, her arrest, and his lies. Bambridge manages to calm things down with a lot of appologizing, and offers to treat her to dinner. After they leave, a messenger comes looking for Tugsley pines – Apparently Vassoy wasn't a thurough in his questionning as he should have been.
