(Happening later the same night as Jynx's meeting with Lady Martinette at the Missing Shekel)

Jynx, having recovered his memories, travels home to the Kurai store and household. He finds the doors locked, and signs that Dominic has taken additional measures toward security … including several fuff'nars in the main store room. Jynx has to make some noise to get the attention of his parents, and is let inside quickly – Dominic is obviously unnerved by something. Jynx finds out that the airship his family was on was attacked by either pirates or assassins.

Jynx had been in the captain's cabin at the time, reading from his collection of pulp fiction books, and came out onto the deck to see what the commotion was. In the freak storm that happened during the attack, Jynx was knocked off-deck – which accounts for Jynx's strange adventure as "Shikouju".

Jynx questions his parents about Lady Martinette, and they only reluctantly verify that she is indeed Jynx's grandmother, on his mother's side, and that Shikouju was his grandfather. Dominic refuses to have anything to do with Martinette or her "blood money", though Jynx refuses to see his grandfather as a villain.
