Kaela finds some unexpected free time one morning in the base camp, and decides to use it to check on a building she remembered from her dream … but which can't be seen for the tangle of the jungle. She makes her way up the canyon wall, apparently without being noticed, and, sure enough, finds the ruined monastery. And, within the dark corridors, she finds her way to the chamber where the priest hid "Emerald-Eyes" in her dream, and discovers the jewelry abandoned there … as well as, inexplicably, the same dress which seems to have survived untold millenia, defying all sense. When she goes to the entrance to examine her prizes, she finds that she has been followed by a black cat named Janus … who somehow, it seems, was able to observe her activities even in total darkness, when she was forced to find her way by touch and memory. Furthermore, he knows how to sign in the Savanite way. Kaela decides to return her prizes, for she knows she would not be allowed to keep such treasures, but she opts to keep a pendant, hiding it under her attire. When she returns to the entrance, Janus is nowhere to be seen
