Alptraum awakens in the Blackshire Inn, being treated by a Savanite physician/shaman. Once it's apparent that he's awake, he's badgered by villagers with various questions, until his father shows up to shoo them away. Alptraum realizes that he doesn't have his pendant, but the mystery of its disappearance is solved when Sheriff Darken shows up with it – and Darken is not happy about it, either, claiming that the pendant bears the symbol of "the Corpse". Alptraum angrily counters that he has no idea what the pendant means, and that it's his only link to his past. Darken at last leaves, and Dimitris gives Alptraum his recorder back (which he had been keeping to make certain it was not damaged). Alptraum, left alone to rest in the room, starts playing on the recorder, and slowly drifting off to sleep.
