On returning to the Temple to begin her training, Tasha is brought to a small room with a mosaic mural depicting a battle. A mysterious faceless monk appears before her, and puts her into a trance.
During the trance, Tasha has a vision of herself appearing in the battle depicted in the mosaic. She meets Nike, who she first thinks is the Lapi version of Abaddon, and learns about the roles of the Heralds. Nike refers to Tasha as Tisiphone, the Herald of Avenging Murder, and Tasha accepts that identity for herself.
After learning a bit more about how Abaddon operates, Tasha returns to her normal senses and relays what she's seen to the monk. The monk tells her that the Amazonians don't really worship Abaddon, who doesn't need worship, but the Virtue of Just Victory, Nike, in his name.
The monk instructs Tasha, still flush from her epiphany, to meditate upon a question and bring her answer the next morning: We who follow the Gods whom do we ultimately serve?
