Amelia meets with Olivia at her home in the Weaver compound, where the Kadie is impressed by the Skeek's collection of shiny things and pieces of homemade art. The two discuss some new clothes for Amelia on the way to pick up Zahn at the Mint Dam.

They run into Zahn's cousin Dierdra, who is also looking for Zahnrad, and eventually find him hiding in his workshop after Dierdra has left. The leave the dam without incident, and start through the woods towards the castle.

Along the way, they come across the old cemetery behind the Manor House. There is a broken statue of a winged figure with an inscription written in Olympian (which none of them can read) and two crypts. One of the crypts is still intact and sealed, bearing the symbol of the Snapfish family. The second crypt is defaced, and the door crumbles when Zahn touches it.

Inside the second crypt the group finds several rotted coffins and three stone sarcophagi, all empty – and the middle one has a hole dug right through the stone bottom and into a narrow underground tunnel. Getting creeped out by it all, they cover the sarcophagus with pieces of cover stones to block it off, and decide to come back later with material to seal the structure back up properly.
