The Wayfarer docks at Rephidim, and unloads its cargo and passengers, including Pawtuxet the explorer foxtaur and Chiaroscuro the Exile mongoose. Chiaroscuro gets some well-wishes from members of the crew and a couple of tokens of their appreciation, before being ushered off to the Temple and being handed off for Processing by Inquisitor Melchizedek. He receives an odd vision while using the Learning Helmet, but it is successful – He has a much better grasp of the language now. When the matter of covering the Processing fee comes up, the "weathervane" Chiaroscuro picked up earlier is mentioned, and it appears it may go toward paying at least part of the considerable fee.
