Bassai visits the Temple in search of the Champion of Roses, and finds his way to Inquisitor Moffat's office. He overhears a "conversation" (dominated by Moffat) between the poodle Inquisitor and a stranger inside that hints at some more power shake-ups within the Temple. Bassai and his slave, Tekki, hide, as the warrioress storms out – none other than the Champion of Roses, whom Bassai has been pursuing. He catches up with her at the gates, and follows her into an alleyway, where other warrioresses of the Magenta Lance are waiting. He questions her regarding a slave of hers, but she does not prove to be particularly cooperative. In the end, he still comes away with a few fragments of information, at the very least
