Returning home from the Temple, Kaela is accosted by a young wolf and his Kavi cohorts at the edge of the Bazaar. Surprising himself and the bullies both, Jaundice comes to her defense, and the two escape the gang. Jaundice runs into Envoy while trying to follow Kaela through the crowds, and soon the three are together. Envoy introduces Kaela and Jaundice to eachother, since they didn't really get to know eachother at the City of Hands during Jaundice's visit. The young Hekoye doesn't know why he finds the green-eyed Savanite so interesting, and even agrees to learn sign-language from Envoy while the group walks back to the Mikide Estate
