Kaela meets a tall cheetah at the Mikide Townhouse named Zorah, who introduces herself as Kaela's older sister. She has a commanding presence, and sets Haji to cleaning himself up to help them for a trip into town. In the garden, Kaela speaks with Zorah about her other sisters – especially the eldest, who Zorah names as "Third Sight" … or "Third Eye". Haji returns, and the threesome travel to the Scholars' Quarter and go shopping for a new dress for Kaela, Zorah having enough privilege such that she seems almost a free citizen
