At the Silent-Ones Embassy in New Zion, Envoy gets cleaned up and dressed and finally reunites with Icarus, who has been taken care of but doesn't understand the sign-language or customs of his hosts. Envoy talks with Born-in-War to clear things up, and is assured that nothing from Icarus' origins will be counted against him, but they would really like to run a DNA test to find an exact match on his parent.

Envoy needs extra assurances, but then agrees to allow it if Icarus consents. While Born-in-War's daughters go to discuss it with Icarus, Envoy is taken to the medical center so that she can do an internal imaging scan. She finds out that the bullet isn't rattling around in her skull, and can see the extend of Sifran crystal intrusion as well as where her ribs were sheered free.

When one of the daughters returns with Icarus' blood sample for scanning, Envoy makes arrangements for a surgeon to reattach her ribs. The scan completes, revealing Icarus' 'father' to be Fearless-Eye, a decorated pilot gone missing – and Born-in-War's great-grandfather.
