Still out in the garden, Lilac hears the sounds of fighting. Investigating only brings her to Umeko, however, who is going through her combat exercises to work off her stress.

They talk of their respective families and obligations, with Lilac having much more freedom than the noble-born Kiriga woman. Umeko takes Lilac to the bath house, which gives the human the wrong impression at first that Umeko wanted to watch her bathe. This is quickly cleared up, and Lilac starts to enjoy the bath while she and Umeko continue to talk – at least until Umeko's father calls for the Kiriga.
