Baddock travels to Aelfhem, where he parts ways with Captain Meadowglade, and heads off to the Sacred Grove on Sacred Mountain. There, he attacks a tree to make it shed some leaves, which angers some Aelfin monks. They converge upon Baddock, and he tries fighting them, though it's soon evident that he's outnumbered, and they aren't entirely incompetent. He taunts the monks, then seeks refuge in a tree, only to find that the "Guardian of the Seasons" mentioned earlier happens to be a giant three-headed dragon. He rushes back down, runs past the monks, then decides to "play dead" … then reconsiders that, when he sees how many monks are now after him. He decides to try a totally new stunt, "horizontal triangle jumping" between tree trunks, and fails miserably, knocking himself unconscious in the resulting fall.
