Rasheeka awakens, still smarting from her injuries, to be tended to by Agueda, an older vixen. Agueda helps Rasheeka to prepare and dress herself for attending tyr dynatos, informing her – with some disguised distaste to the word – that she is now an "echaristi." It is an unfamiliar word to Rasheeka, and the best she can figure is that it is another word for "courtesan." Rasheeka distracts herself from this news somewhat, by telling Agueda about her homeland.

Rasheeka is then brought back to Steward Rasmus, and given instructions on where to stand and how to behave in the presence of the tyr dynatos – in particular that she is not to sit down until instructed to do so, and that she is to remain behind and to the left of Steward Rasmus. When the tyr dynatos emerges, Rasheeka finds that these simple instructions aren't quite so simple, with how instinctively and quickly everyone else goes through the motions of bowing and rising and shifting positions … but she tries her best.
