Kaela dreams while in a hut in Storm-Hand's village, and sees the elder Princess Emerald-Eyes again in her vision, asking her questions about the Twelve-times-Twelve and how she might free them, and about her chances of swaying them, rather than letting them obey Jezebel. She also asks about the "creen-ship", and is granted a vision of times past, visiting its place of storage and riding on it … to a distant land to observe the destruction of a people resistant to the control of the Savanite Empire. Kaela suggests that some mercy should be shown, and it is granted, in a fashion, by a priest proclaiming a means by which the curse may be lifted at some point in the distant future. And, after this is all finished, Kaela dreams again of her dance lessons
