Envoy is shown through the dormitories of the School of Earth by Mage Iona, a Jupani Earth Mage. Envoy's dorm room is at the end of a hallway, at the corner of the building, and utilizes a bit of amber in the decoration. Mage Iona mentions that Envoy has a secret sponsor, though, since the sponsor is secret, Iona can't reveal the identity of this mysterious benefactor.

While Iona is showing Envoy around, Iona accidentally knocks a fruit on Mage Qing's head, who happens to be coming toward the building. He comes inside, and Iona beats a hasty exit. Qing reveals that he came here, tracking a spiritual disturbance. He examines the source of the magic, and then waves it off as only being a mistake. He takes his leave of the dorm room as Envoy's two neighbors – Summer Forrest (a Cervani Earth Apprentice), and Spring-Meadow (a Lapi Earth Apprentice) – drop by with a "dorm-warming gift": some fresh- baked bread. The previous occupant of the room was a Skeek Journeyman by the name of Autumn-Breeze, and apparently she left some "goodies" in the apartment, including some ripening fruit on the balcony, which Envoy treats her guests to. Meanwhile, a spirit messenger sent by Qing warns Envoy that she is being spied on by a magical spirit, and that she should be careful what she says or does in its presence.
