Silhouette and Rory, still in the cottage, discuss their experiences and compare notes, trying to make sense of apparent discrepancies that violate their understanding of the nature of time. At one point, Rory is afraid that somehow, their actions have changed the past, and caused Koshiro to be harmed. Rory enacts a ritual to send a shadow-creen back to Koshiro to check on him, and it turns out that Koshiro is perfectly fine. Rory and Silhouette then go back in and check out the previously unopened trunk at the foot of Corwin's bed.
