Buran, a possible exile, originally from Chronotopia who has been with the Technopriests in Rephidim, is on sabbatical to learn healing from the Celestial Order, where she was abandonned as a child. She is in Blitzheim, at Baron Phelan's estate, treating a wounded Cervani. The patient, Shem, awakes, and questions the healer about recent events. Buran reveals that he was lucky to survive, and Brother Salvatori, was not so fortunate. Trying to change the subject, Shem questions Buran about her origins, and reveals what little he knows of the events preceeding the ambush in the street. Buran fetches some food for her patient, and their conversation continues until it is interupted by a summons for Buran. Baron Phelan finally wishes to speak to her
