After leaving the castle, Olivia and Amelia come to the Gnarly Tree, home of Morgan and his mother, Isolde. Isolde invites them inside for tea, where Olivia asks her about old burial customs, with regard to the broken crypt they came across earlier that morning.

Isolde explains a bit about wards, curses and desecration of graves, which causes Olivia to rethink the order of events in her head: rather than someone desecrating the crypt to leave it vulnerable to ghouls, it may be that the symbols and wards were removed after a ghoul desecrated it first.

The possibility of the place being cursed is also discussed, and how curses and wards work differently for spirits, places and living people.

Isolde offers to perform a cleansing ritual, which puts the girls more at ease.
