At midnight in the Forest Cathedral, Isolde, Morgan and Natasha gather along with Mage Qing and the condemned Warder Albrekt – as well as the dying child, Carly.

Together, the three witches (with Natasha filling in for the Crone) summon up the spirit of the land, Sunlight-Through-Wind-Stirred-Leaves. Isolde explains the origins of the land spirits in Sylvania, and their bond to the people.

Albrekt and Carly are swept into the air and only Carly returns, now with Albrekt's spirit within her, destining her to become a witch.

Qing and Isolde disagree over things, with Qing claiming that proper taming of the land's magic would prevent the need for such drastic cures, while Natasha tries to explain to him the reality of things in Sylvania.
