After following Buffy's guide-bunny to an old well at the end of a mineshaft, Zahn sets up a rope-and-pulley, then lowers Amy down first before following. The tunnels below are cramped and half-flooded, and Zahn releases Qing's seeker-spell to find the lost Lapi.

The two Kadies chit-chat a bit while waiting, and the little spirit returns soon enough to guide them to where it found Clover. When they arrive, the Lapi is covered in giant, carnivorous-looking snails that are eating her clothes. Because of Amy's phobia, Zahn goes to knock the snails away with her halberd. Clover looks beat up, and is comatose but breathing. Her scalp has been shaved though, and is covered in circular welts.

Zahn carries her back, while Amy checks for signs of monster modifications and doesn't find any. They decide to let Igor check the Lapi out, and keep her discovery quiet until they know what's happened to her.
