Dr. Pike, Zahn, Amy, Olivia and Djivan begin exploring the underground canal system in a skiff that Igor patched up. They discover a hideous statue of a gargoyle gnawing on a skeek's leg, which Pike suggests is some sort of marker.

Further along, they come to another dock like the one in the castle's basement, and moor their boat. At the end of a long hallway is a double-bolted, iron-girded oak door. The open it up with much screeching of rusty hinges, and discover that the tunnel turns to chalk beyond it. Exploring further brings them to a dome-shaped chamber with tunnels branching off in all directions, and with a big hole in the ceiling, right above a pile of rabbit corpses.

A fresh, blood-drained bunny falls through the hole, and it's enough to get everyone to start retreating. A wind follows them, blowing up chalk dust that coats them all in white before they make it to the door. When they look through and see the fresh corpse of the bunny standing there, with no indication of who propped it up, they're sure it must be the legendary Buffy, the vampire lapi.
