Leeta runs an errand for Tahir, ferrying a bucket of water to his chambers. There, she finds Tahir quite tired, and finds out about his dealings with the Ashdod Embassy … and rumors that Rhys has been sneaking out of the Temple. Leeta volunteers to try to keep a watch on Rhys during his unauthorized forays. Tahir and Leeta also discuss the matter of just why Leeta has chosen to stay at the Temple as Tahir's slave, when she could just as easily be a princess in the Savan … and could have even had a chance as a candidate for the position of Priest-Queen of the City of Hands. She indicates that she feels that she can serve better here … and that her friends and family are here.
