Willow and her friends are treated in the tea room of Castle Diamante, by the elder Cervani lady, Mother Diamante, along with two guests: Prince Urban and Prince Darklight. Willow takes a hint that Mother Diamante might like an excuse to leave the company of the two tactless princes, and they leave under the pretense of getting Willow something nice to wear for dinner. Prince Diamante arrives, bringing Morning-Mist in, and Mother Diamante takes Misty along to find a dress as well.

At dinner, Morning-Mist looks like a princess in a pearlescent white dress, and she seems to be rather taken with the charming Prince Diamante (and vice versa). Willow wears a conservative blue dress, with a shawl covering her arm (still in a cast), but Whitehead makes a fool of himself, and the rest of the crew (all seated at the table) is not on absolute best behavior. Willow tries to find out more about the kingdom of Kroz, though she keeps getting interrupted.
