The Kestrel makes landfall in Galway Cove, a seaside settlement in the small mixed-species Nordikan nation of Tursdi. Tulani and Arkold pay a visit to Granny Weewei, a local healer, who diagnoses Arkold's mysterious fever as being caused by a curse on the artifact canteen that keeps his drinks warm. (Apparently, it keeps him warm, too, and that's the trouble!) Arkold parts with his canteen, so the healer can examine it some more; Tulani and Arkold head out to find Raneah, and to take part in the Candlemass festivities in town.
