With Solomon's help, Esther is slipped into the Temple, into the regions controlled by the Technopriest. She goes under the assumed name of "Sister Naomi", and is escorted by Brother Ishmael to see Brother Tubalcain – who looks much different than might have been expected. Esther presents a sample of her discoveries concerning the Map Room in the City of Hands, and how it may be used to predict the motions of the sky islands and the planets. Brother Tubalcain is interested, but is limited in what help he can offer "Sister Naomi" in uncovering the plot behind the destruction of the Wayfarer's Song
