Envoy, visiting the realm of Morpheus in another dream session with Mystico the Marvelous, encounters the "cat-bat" again. This time, Morpheus takes her to a crashed vessel of the Silent Ones, where he "replays" dreams of the deceased crew, in order to test the responses of Envoy's three different "aspects", and to see if they can work together as a team to determine how to react.

Mircus arrives – actually on the planet of Morpheus in body rather than via magical dreams – and witnesses the creation of a fourth aspect for Envoy: Black Father. This "aspect" is created based on a blending of characteristics of people Envoy has met who almost filled some sort of parent role in some way – Vielanika, who cared for Envoy, but didn't have the experience; Inquisitor Melchizedek, who had knowledge, but who Envoy felt did not care about her; and Zoltan, who was the closest thing she knew to a parent, though he had little to do with her.

This fourth aspect is created and placed into Envoy's psyche, filling the intended role of comforting the Child, reining in the Probe, and encouraging the Robot to speak up more often.

This accomplished, Morpheus prepares to take Mircus out to explore more of this planet…
